In One Week, NW Natural’s Big Day

If there was a social calendar for Oregon environmentalists, this might the biggest event of them all.

The annual meeting of shareholders for NW Natural takes place a week from today. It’s become an annual draw not just for investors, but also for Oregon’s anti-LNG movement. Last year’s rally was fairly serene. But two years ago some of the protesters chained themselves to the doors at the utility’s offices in downtown Portland.

BPA Pulls Out From Eastern Oregon Power Line

BPA says it’s not going to get involved with plans to build a 300-mile high voltage power line in Eastern Oregon. That’s according to Rocky Barker of the Idaho Statesman. Just how this will affect the transmission line isn’t clear.

DEQ: Let’s Take Another Look At An Early Shut Down Of Boardman

The campaign to shut down Oregon’s only coal-fired power plant by 2014 just got some big news.

The Department of Environmental Quality says it will recommend that the state reject PGE’s proposal to close the Boardman power plant by 2020, and take some additional time to study alternatives for an early shut down.

Hood River County Says No To Wind Farm

A controversial plan to build a county owned wind farm near Hood River is dead.

County officials came up with the idea as way to make up for falling revenues from timber sales. But many people in the area were opposed, saying it would ruin scenic views, lower property values, and cause problems for wildlife.

Photos From Friday’s Offshore Drilling Protest In Portland

I was out of town when I got a phone call from Brock Howell of Environment Oregon who was in the middle of this protest at the time.  Too bad I wasn’t able to record the audio. I could hear lots of cars in the background – honking in solidarity with the protesters. It was something to hear, if not seen.

EO, Sierra Club and Climate Solutions put this together at a gas station that sells BP petroleum products.
