Background Info:
I was Portland Bureau Chief for this Seattle based regional news network for nearly four years. In some ways one of my best jobs because I learned so much about news and issues facing Oregon. The state is a treasure chest for stories about the environment, natural resources and sustainability. My desk was in the KGW Newschannel 8 newsroom and I worked closely with KGW staff daily.
The “other” CNN network that now calls itself HLN. I worked in the Atlanta newsroom for more than 20 years and it was an incredible experience. One of the great things about working at a place like CNN was all the opportunities available to you. Most of the time I was a newsroom supervisor and newscast producer. But I also produced special reports, newscast segments, wrote and edited copy for CNN.com, supervised or took part in several well known breaking news events, taught a series of workshops on Internet based reporting and worked with journalists from around the world through CNN’s International Professional Program.
Newscast producer and evening assignments. Lots of turnover during my year here. But I learned a lot from my second News Director Brink Chipman.
KRIS-TV, Corpus Christi, Texas:
A friendly, family owned and operated station. The Smiths made me feel right at home. Newscast producer and for a brief period ran the assignment desk.
KXMD-TV, Williston, North Dakota:
My first full-time job! I was News Director, anchor, producer, video editor, reporter, studio cameraman and babysitter of kittens. One of those only in small town America jobs where you learn to do almost everything.
