I was out of town when I got a phone call from Brock Howell of Environment Oregon who was in the middle of this protest at the time. Too bad I wasn’t able to record the audio. I could hear lots of cars in the background – honking in solidarity with the protesters. It was something to hear, if not seen.
EO, Sierra Club and Climate Solutions put this together at a gas station that sells BP petroleum products.
The message, in case you’re still not sure, is to stop offshore drilling for oil and gas and move the country faster to renewable energy. Talking about the Gulf Spill, protester Leslie March says, “You don’t see these kind of disasters at wind farms.”
The organizers say this is one of 50 similar events taking place around the country this week.

My personal opinion is that by stopping the offshore drilling we will not get any advantage.“Is this a right solution?
Have you stopped driving on the road as someone you knew lost his life in a tragic car accident?………………..

Absolutely fantastic work, organizers and activists alike. Your point is well taken – this oil spill isn’t just about ending BP, but about moving our economy and our politics past Big Oil’s mafia grip. We can build a healthier, more prosperous economy with clean, home-grown energy. You go, guys!
