Here’s one of the more interesting campaigns to raise awareness about overpopulation.
The Center For Biological Diversity is handing out 100,000 free Endangered Species condoms for Valentine’s Day.
The Center has lined up about 3,000 volunteers to start handing out the condoms at bars, supermarkets, schools and pretty much any kind of public event.
And if they run out? They’re making more.
“All of the major threats to the earth’s biodiversity – sprawl, logging, mining, dams, pollution, and climate change – are driven by human overpopulation,” says Randy Serraglio, a conservation advocate leading the Center’s overpopulation campaign. ”Our Endangered Species Condoms are designed to capture peoples’ attention, get them laughing, and get them talking about the impact of overpopulation on our small and fragile planet.”

All artwork by Lori Lieber
Designed to be a little bit edgy, the condoms feature images of the polar bear, snail darter, spotted owl, American burying beetle, jaguar, and coquí guajón rock frog. All six species are listed as threatened or endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
The Center has created a website, EndangeredSpeciesCondoms.com, where you can learn more about how overpopulation is harming wildlife and increasing extinction rates around the world.
One lucky winner gets a free “lifetime supply” of the condoms.
And somehow I wrote that story without any bad puns or lame jokes.

Hi, just wanted to let you know that the *graphic design* was donated by Lori Lieber, but the artwirk was created and donated by The Endangered Species Print Project, which you can check out here: http://endangeredspeciesprintproject.com
