Two New Events To Block The Palomar Pipeline

With a decision on the Palomar pipeline due any day now, two environmental groups are stepping up their efforts to keep it from being built.

On Saturday, Students Against LNG will be hiking to a spot in the Mt. Hood National Forest where the proposed pipeline route crosses the Clackamas River.

Then next week, Bark is leading a similar trip to where the pipeline may cross Fish Creek.

Here’s what you need to know about both events.

Students Against LNG will gather Saturday morning, February 6th, at the Oregon Sierra Club offices at 1821 Ankeny St. in Portland. They’ll be leaving about 9am for day long hike and planning retreat.

“The struggle against LNG isn’t just about affected landowners, it’s about protecting the climate, and securing a clean energy future for Oregon.  Young people across the state are rising to this challenge,” says Nick Engelfried, co-director of Students Against LNG. “On Saturday we will visit the Mount Hood ecosystem that the young Oregonians of today will inherit, and that’s now threatened by LNG development.”

Then on Sunday, February 14, Bark is organizing a visit to Fish Creek, a watershed that the Forest Service has been spent years and millions of dollars in trying to restore. Bark’s fear is that by putting in the Palomar pipeline, all that restoration work will be destroyed.

The group meets at 9am at the Hollywood Trader Joe’s, 4121 NE Halsey in Portland. That’s right across the street from the Hollywood Max stop.

The Palomar Gas Pipeline is a 220 mile project that carries imported natural gas from the Bradwood Landing LNG terminal along the Columbia River. In addition to running through some of Oregon’s best farmland and vineyards, it crosses about 50 miles of the Mt. Hood National Forest.
