CORRECTION: Wednesday’s Green Events: Gore, Protests and Babies

November 18, 2009
By Dennis Newman

Correction: The first version of this story had a big mistake. The Gore/Bradbury event is Thursday, not today. My thanks to a sharp-eyed reader who caught the error.

A lot happening today, mostly thanks to one guy, former Vice President Al Gore.

In what could be the photo opportunity of the day, the Oregon Environmental Council is holding a “Crawl To Action” event. The group is going to release a large group of babies in a mall, letting them crawl towards a tiny replica of the U.S. Capitol. That’ll be followed by a press conference where they’ll call on Congress to toughen federal laws on toxic chemicals. This is part of a national campaign with similar crawls taking place in other cities.

  • When: The event starting time is 10:00am, but the crawl isn’t expected until 10:45am. Things will wrap up by 2:00pm
  • Where: Washington Square Mall
  • For More Information: Oregon Environmental Council

Then in the late afternoon, the focus returns to…you guessed it… Al Gore. A group called MoveOnDotGore is rallying the faithful for a protest against Gore and climate change legislation.  As word about that spread around, environmentalists responded by setting up a pro-Gore rally. That’s being sponsored by Repower America, a group which advocates for green energy and is closely tied to the former Vice-President.

  • When: Start times are a little unclear, but things could get under way about 5:00pm.
  • Where: Keller Auditorum
  • For More Information: See MoveOnDotGore or Repower America.

Finally, the mother of all events, at least for today. Gore delivers a public lecture to promote his new book and outline some of his ideas on how to solve the global warming crisis.
