Record High Salmon Runs In The Willamette Valley

ODFW says it’s seeing a record high fall salmon run in the Willamette Valley. They’ve counted 24,000 adult coho so far, busting a record that’s stood for more than 25 years. Biologists say near perfect conditions for salmon in the Pacific Ocean helped boost numbers this year. From the Albany Democrat Herald.

Fighting Sprawl In Jackson County

Rogue Advocates, a Southern Oregon land watch group, is fighting plans for a 340-acre subdivision near John’s Peak in Jackson County. County officials recently approved a zoning change that would allow the developer to divide the forested area into 10-acre parcels. Rogue Advocates is appealing the decision with the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals. From the Medford Mail Tribune.

Healthy Streams In Ashland

The Ashland City Council meets tonight to consider new rules protecting streams and wetlands. It creates 50-foot buffer zones around these areas and limits what can be done in the buffer zones. From the Ashland Daily Tidings.
