It’s hard to imagine a poignant meeting on salmon issues,  but that’s exactly how a story in the Coos Bay World comes across.  The paper reports on yesterday’s public hearing on the upcoming coastal salmon season.  It says many of the commercial fishermen at the meeting were willing to forgo fishing if it meant recreational fishermen could have a better season.  The meeting was held by the Pacific Fishery Management Council which is trying to decide how much salmon can be harvested along the West Coast this year.  For fishermen in California and Southern Oregon, the situation looks pretty bleak because of low salmon runs on the Sacramento River.
